Hip Hop Reflections

Before I wrote books, I wrote rhymes. Hip hop was my first outlet, the place where I could put all the chaos, pain, ambition, and truth into words. A beat and a notebook were my therapy long before I knew what therapy was.

These are the tracks I recorded years ago, some I found on youtube. DJs had posted singles we released that were played on college radio stations. My brother Urbalist and I put in a catalog that has lingered even after all these years. Reading people talk about seeing us perform or hearing a song on the radio over 20 years ago lets me know back then I was trying to have an impact with my art. It’s poetic how life comes full circle. When I listen to these songs, I realize that I always had the intention of reaching people with words.

This page is my way of preserving that voice and connecting it to the reflections I share now. Every post will share a song maybe a story behind it—or just let the song breathe as a glimpse into a moment of my contribution to the culture of hip hop music. An art that had my heart early on in life.

It’s not just music. It’s a timeline. It’s memory. It’s the rhythm of my raw truths.
